At the Plattduetsche Home Society, no birthday ever goes unnoticed. Every month for more than six decades, we have celebrated our residents’ birthdays with cake, candles and joyful sing-a-longs. It is one of many traditions that make our senior community so special.
Our Birthday Celebrations Bring Joy and Build Community
The Plattduetsche Home Society, which first opened in 1923, is a lively retirement community with a rich history, including our monthly birthday celebrations hosted by the Ladies Society. These joyous group gatherings are a hallmark of the experience of living in our senior community.
Cake, Candles & Sing-A-Longs
On the last Wednesday of every month, the residents of both our Enriched Housing and Adult Home facilities gather together in our party room for a group birthday celebration. With the celebrants seated in a place of honor, a professional German accordion player treats everyone to renditions of the classics. The party culminates with cake and candles served by members of the Ladies Society.
A Chance to Feel Like a Kid Again
Our monthly group birthday celebrations have become a highly anticipated event, elevating the attention and interest level of everyone in the community. Between blowing out candles and singing out loud with friends, these monthly gatherings make our celebrants feel like kids again. Over the years, more than a few of our residents have expressed gratitude for the joy that these special events have brought them.
Celebrations that Bring Together Our Community
Once a month, the members of the two facilities within our senior community come together to celebrate each other as one community. These parties provide an opportunity for seniors — who might not otherwise cross each other’s paths — to mix and mingle. In this festive atmosphere, new friendships are formed, existing relationships are strengthened and community bonds are built.
The Ladies Society Throws Memorable Birthday Parties
Over the last six decades, The Ladies Society, an all-volunteer organization, has been an integral part of making our monthly birthday celebrations memorable. In addition to their other philanthropic activities, The Ladies Society is responsible for the organization and execution of our birthday parties. This group of dedicated women freely give their time to make sure that each of our residents enjoys a wonderful birthday celebration every year.
