A Stellar Lineup of Retirement Home Activities Brings Joy to Our Seniors

The Plattduetsche Home Society is just another pretty place to enjoy your retirement years. It’s also a lively community where seniors enjoy a slew of year-round on-site and off-site activities. Over the last few months, our residents have been out-and-about in the community, checking out seasonal attractions. Off-site retirement home activities, like a recent trip to Jones Beach’s Magic of Lights, created a joyful atmosphere for all and brought our community closer together.

Off-Site Retirement Home Activities Elevate the Plattduetsche Experience

Magic of Lights at Jones Beach

A group of our seniors recently kicked off the holiday season a little early with our home’s annual trek to the Magic of Lights at Jones Beach State Park. They all piled into a van just before sundown to drive through the impressive display of festive lights.

Upon arrival, the oohhs and aahhs quickly bellowed through the van. Of course, all of our favorite displays were there – snowmen, Santa, angels, a partridge in a pear tree and all the rest of the characters from “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”

Together, we sang songs, and Christmas cheer permeated the van. Our residents returned to our home pumped and primed for the holiday season!

Jericho Cider Hill

The Plattduetsche Home Society is an active retirement community where our residents have the opportunity to experience engaging activities all year round, including hayrides and pumpkin picking.

This fall, a group of our seniors enjoyed an off-site excursion to the Jericho Cider Mill. On the drive there and back, they experienced Long Island fall foliage in all its glory. At the Jericho Cider Mill, our residents browsed freshly picked apples, fresh-pressed cider, apple doughnuts, and more.

Forest Pork Store

Our retirement home activities also expose residents to cultural experiences found within local Long Island communities.

Recently, we took a group of seniors on an off-site excursion to Forest Pork Store in nearby Huntington. To get there, we took the scenic route along Jericho Turnpike from our Franklin Square location. Our residents partook in the country-like views and saw colored leaves still hanging on the trees.

Although winter was still on the way, our seniors felt the joy of the holiday season first-hand. A passer-by noticed the Plattduetsche Home Society van and gave the cashier a hundred-dollar bill towards their order. This small gesture brought smiles and joy that started the holidays off right.
